Goalkeeper celebrates with local amateur football club Breightmet United following their recent success with Capital One's Grounds for Improvement programme

Adam Bogdan recently paid a visit to local football team Breightmet United to celebrate the club winning £5,000 to makeover their pitch and facilities in conjunction with Capital One.

As part of a UK wide grassroots football campaign, the prize was awarded as part of Capital One’s ‘Grounds for Improvement’ programme which strives to improve the condition of football pitches up and down the country.

Judged by a panel of experts including former England international Ian Wright and Britain’s oldest Sunday League footballer Derek May, Breightmet United were one of ten amateur football clubs selected to receive £5,000 to renovate their facilities while Scottish side Glenelg were awarded the top prize of £75,000.

The nationwide search attracted more than 1,000 entries from clubs and community pitches across the country.

Speaking following the announcement, Breightmet United’s manager Simon Wilcox admitted that the money will prove invaluable as the club aim to develop in the near future.

“Winning £5,000 is a huge boost and will have a really big impact on improving our facilities,” he said. “We’re so grateful to Capital One for their support and can’t wait for the work to get started.”

Jaidev Janardana, Chief Marketing Officer at Capital One and judge, echoed Wilcox’s sentiments by adding: “As League Cup sponsor we want to recognise and support supporters at all levels of the game.

“With over a thousand entries, selecting our winners wasn’t easy but Breightmet United are very deserving of their prize.

“We know this is going to mean an awful lot to the club and local community, and look forward to hearing how the work on the pitch progresses.”
