Interim boss says Bolton more than merited a share of the spoils against Wolves at Molineux

Jimmy Phillips says Bolton were good value for the point gained against Wolves at Molineux on Tuesday evening.

Benik Afobe’s first competitive league goal for the club gave Bolton the lead, though a three-minute brace from Kevin Doyle saw the hosts take a lead into the half-time interval.

But Phillips’ side rallied in the second period and were rewarded when Mark Davies crashed home a stunning equaliser in the 90th minute.

Speaking in his post-match press Phillips said: “Overall I’m very pleased. We started the game brightly and passed and moved the ball well and were worthy of the lead.

“I felt we could have gone on and built on that, but we know that we keep our focus – that’s one of the areas we have been working on.

“The five minute period in which we conceded the two goals is something that we weren’t particularly pleased with.

“We’ve given ourselves a little bit of an uphill task to get back into the game, but I thought the performance from the players was of a high standard.

“We pressed Wolves hard and in the end I think we had twice as many attempts on goal. As an away team at Molineux, that was exceptionally pleasing.

“We have to make sure that when we dominate games for large periods, as we did tonight, that we come away with at least a point so all credit must go to the players for keeping on going.

“It was very pleasing to secure the point tonight. It means that we’re on track with the club’s target of averaging two points a game.

“The application of the players was fantastic. If you’re a player, it could easily be unsettling if you find out at 3pm that a new manager is on the way.

“The chairman has told us that myself, Sammy and Julian will be taking charge of first team affairs going into the Middlesbrough game.

“As I understand it the deal with Crystal Palace will be finalised, but that hasn’t yet happened.

“Once again, we had a tremendous travelling support for a midweek game. On behalf of myself, Sammy and Julian I would like to thank them all – we really appreciate it.

“We’re back in tomorrow in preparation for our second away game this week.

“We’re thoroughly enjoying working with the players and our time in charge of first team affairs.”
