The Whites will play their penultimate pre-season friendly against Carlisle United on Tuesday evening.

Wanderers will make the 100 plus trip north to Brunton Park, to play their third consecutive game on the road against League One opposition.

United, firmly established in the third tier of English football, haven’t faced Bolton in a competitive fixture since the late 1980s, and have played six pre-season friendlies so far ahead of league opener against Leyton Orient.

Carlisle United
Cumbrians Carlisle United are one of the longest serving teams in League One, finishing 17th and level on points with Wanderers last opponents, Shrewsbury Town.

Boss Gregg Abbott has wasted on time rebuilding his squad ahead of the league opener in less than two weeks’ time, with former Liverpool winger David Amoo one of United’s recruits.

Last weekend, Carlisle faced Burnley at Brunton Park, with the Clarets running out convincing 4-1 winners, with Lewis Guy grabbing the consolation for the hosts.

The referee
The referee for Tuesday night’s 7.45pm kick-off at Carlisle United is Seb Stockbridge from Tyne.

It will be the first ever time Stockbridge has ever refereed a Bolton Wanderers fixture, and is gearing up for his third season as a referee.
