Wanderers followed up their heroics in the FA Youth Cup with a disappointing 5-0 home defeat to Manchester United in the FA Premier Academy League at the weekend.

High-flying United continued their unbeaten start to 2009, a result which keeps Peter Farrell's team bottom of the table on 14 points from 16 games.

Only one goal separated the teams going into half-time after a fairly even first 45 minutes with Evandro Brandao's long-range effort setting the Reds on their way after half an hour.

Chris Curran doubled the lead on 56 minutes, prodding home after poor marking inside the Wanderers box. Substitute Josh King then struck a quick-fire brace to effectively kill-off the game - side-footing in his first before bundling the ball over the line from close-range to make it 4-0.

The fifth and final goal was curled home by Oliver Norwood with only five minutes remaining on the clock.

Next up for the U18s is a home fixture with Everton this coming weekend, with the Toffees occupying fourth spot on 22 points. A victory could see Bolton climb off the foot of the league should Blackburn slip to defeat in their away fixture against Manchester United.
