Community Team Receive Health Funding
Bolton Wanderers Football in the Community has received £89,000 from The New Football Pools, as part of an exciting new project.
Premier League Health is a unique £1.63m programme funded by the New Football Pools and managed and administered by the Football Foundation to address rising men's health problems across the country.
The New Football Pools presented Bolton Wanderers Football in the Community with a cheque for £89,000 at the home game vs. Stoke City to officially launch the project.
Bolton Wanderers Football in the Community is an independent and registered charity supported by Bolton Wanderers Football Club and one of its aims is to use the local passion for football to promote healthy lifestyles among families in the borough.
Bolton Wanderers Football in the Community's Premier League Health project will run for three years and specifically aims to help local males lead more fit and healthy lifestyles.
To kick off the project Bolton Wanderers Football in the Community will be holding two weekly football/activity based sessions at Leverhulme Park. The project aims to use the attraction of the football club to engage local males between the ages of 18 - 35.
Along with the physical aspect of the project Bolton Wanderers Football in the Community aims to increase knowledge of how to access health services, increase self esteem and also improve training/employment opportunities.
The Premier League and The New Football Pools joined forces to tackle men's health issues, particularly in deprived areas all over the country. The funding is part of an overall £1.63 million that has been donated to 16 Premier League Football Clubs by The New Football Pools.
Each club will activate their individual programmes this season, to help improve the state of men's health across the UK.
The New Football Pools has developed a longstanding relationship with football and the community during its 86 years history.
Ian Penrose, Chief Executive of Sportech PLC, owner of The New Football Pools said: "We are fortunate to be able to support the nation's biggest sport through our Pools products.
"In fact, the company has invested over £1.1billion into football and other good causes throughout its history, with £530 million going specifically into British Football. Whilst in the past we have invested in infrastructure and bricks and mortar, now we are heavily focused on community programmes and the many social aspects in and around football.
"We are delighted to build on this legacy and support Bolton Wanderers Football in the Community in this fantastic new initiative - Premier League Health, ensuring The New Football Pools is even closer to the game that we have supported over the decades."
