BOLTON WANDERERS' Unity in Diversity team are through to the FA National Umbro Futsal Cup final after winning the Futsal Festival organised by the Manchester FA last month.
The format of the festival saw eight teams from across the North West, including Oldham, Bury, Salford, Urmston and one representing the Bolton Wanderers Unity In Diversity project.
Although the Bolton Wanderers UID team hadn't played much futsal prior to the event, they were ready to try it out and were very eager to get on the pitch on a hot and sunny day.
They cruised through the qualifiers wining all three of their game whilst conceding just one goal in the process. They played Manchester Stingers in the semi final and with the game heading for penalties the players battered their opponents' goal but couldn't score until the final minute when they scored the all important goal that took them to the final.
Their opponents in final were Joga Bonito, who proved to be tough to break down. The Bolton Wanderers UID team managed to score a goal just after half time, which proved to be enough for them to win the tournament.
The standard of football was high and the games were played in the correct sporting spirit, with respect for the referee's decisions and the sun shining only added to the enjoyment and success of the girls from Bolton.
As winners of the festival they will now go forward as Bolton Wanderers and Manchester FA's representative in to the FA NATIONAL UMBRO FUTSAL CUP to be held in Sheffield on the 4th, 5th & 6th July 2008.
