Bolton Wanderers Disability Football Club's open age team are making excellent progress in the Greater Manchester Ability Counts Adult Male league, and now occupy second position with eight fixtures played.
After victories over Ashton on Mersey (4-1) and league leaders Oldham Athletic 'B' (4-2), the team have launched a genuine title challenge on sit only three points behind top spot.
With fixtures against Wigan 'B' and Tameside 'B' to come on Tuesday 10 February, there is a possibility of leapfrogging Oldham Athletic 'B'.

Manager Steve Obertelli said: "It's been a superb start to the season, especially with it being our first year together. The team is made up of players who have progressed from the Under 16s team from last season, so they have been competing against people who are considerably older than them.
"There are some teams in this division that have been together for four or five years, and although it was difficult in the first few games, we have done well since and we are happy with where we are in the league.
"All the lads are enjoying their football and it's great to see them having the chance to play on a competitive basis. I think second spot isn't out of our reach and if we can beat Oldham next time we play them then hopefully a couple of other teams can do us a favour. But to get a few victories on the board in our first season is fantastic and then everything else is a bonus.
"People are a lot more open minded about disability sport now because it was a bit taboo a few years ago. We've been holding our sessions for six or seven years now, which has accumulated in us getting a couple of teams together at various levels.
"With the FA getting involved and backing the leagues at local level, and us setting up our own football club rather than just doing coaching through the Football in the Community scheme, people have become a lot more open minded about what we are trying to achieve."
