Disability Team Wins League Title

Posted on: Mon 26 Oct 2009

Bolton Wanderers Disability Football Club won the Greater Manchester Ability Counts Open Age Male League in their first season in the competition.

The team played in the seven-a-side league, run by the Manchester FA at Salford Sports Village, and managed to beat off competition from local rivals Wigan Athletic to ensure the title came to the Reebok.

"The lads played incredibly well in many of the games and their hard work was rewarded on the final league meeting of the season by coming away with a draw and a victory in our two fixtures. To win the league in our first season is absolutely fantastic. I am extremely proud of the lads and their efforts," said manager Steve Obertelli.

Due to a restructure in the way the leagues will be conducted this season the team will now play at The Cliff, an indoor venue, but still seven-a-side where the Disability Football Club will come up against some strong sides that they avoided facing last season such as Everton, Manchester City and Manchester United.
