Wilhelmsson

BOLTON WANDERERS will complete the loan signing of Swedish international Christian Wilhelmsson from French club Nantes in the next 24 hours.

The 27-year-old winger, who spent last season on loan at Italian outfit AS Roma, will join Sammy Lee's Reebok revolution on a 12-month loan, with a view to a permanent move.

The former Anderlecht ace is regarded as one Sweden's top playmakers and is easily adept at playing on both flanks.

Wilhelmsson started his career with Mjallby AIF in 1997 where he stayed for three seasons. In 2000 he played for Norwegian team Stabaek IF before joining Anderlecht in 2003. He joined French side FC Nantes at the start of last season - making just 13 appearances before being loaned out to AS Roma in January, where he made 19 appearances scoring a single goal for the Serie A outfit.

Wilhelmsson represented Sweden at Euro 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup and in total has over 40 caps for his country scoring three goals on the international stage.

Commenting on Wilhelmsson, Wanderers' manager Sammy Lee said:

"I am delighted that we have finalised the deal to bring Christian Wilhelmsson to Bolton. We have been working on this deal for some time and our patience has paid off. He is a versatile winger and will add a new dimension to our new style of player we are going to implement this season.

"One of his greatest attributes is that he is capable of playing on both the left and right flank with relative ease. He likes to attack and will give us the perfect outlet to provide good service to our attackers. His attacking prowess comes from his blistering pace and is regarded by many as one of the quickest players in the national team. He has the potential to light up the Premier League with his pace and skill.

"The English game will suit his style and with the quality we have already attracted to the Club we are building a very capable squad.

"Other clubs from around Europe have shown an interest in the player and it is a major coup that he has decided to join Bolton."

Wilhelmsson will meet up with the rest of new team-mates after Wanderers' trip to Hibernian on Wednesday and he could figure against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday at Prenton Park if Wanderers receive international clearance in time.

The new season will see Bolton Wanderers play their away games in a brand new distinctive all black and turquoise strip, and supporters who buy the shirt from the Club Superstore will receive a free ticket to watch Wanderers' forthcoming UEFA Cup First Round (home leg) tie.
