Post Match: Chelsea 1 - 1 BOLTON WANDERERS
GARY MEGSON was pleased with the way his players stood up to the occasion as they battled to earn a point against title-chasing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Matt Taylor's last minute strike cancelled out Andreij Shevhenko's opener to help Manchester United win a tenth Premier League crown at the expense of the Blues.
The point also emphatically ensured Wanderers' top flight status.
And Megson revealed that although his troops were virtually assured of their Premier League place before the game had taken place, they wanted to come to London to get a result.
He said: "We wanted to come here and win the game, but we're not stupid - we know the kind of players they've got, and what we've got going for us. So we needed to make it a tight game, and in the first half we certainly did that.
"Whilst a win would have been fantastic - the first team to get a result here in however many years would have been great - but it wasn't to be.
"We wanted to get something from the game, which actually did happen.
"We had to make sure we didn't put in a poor performance, then catch fire and them end up beating us by a cricket score.
"If that had happened, you know how the other results went. We had to be aware of those things."
