Bolton 2 Man City 2 (Bolton win 4-3 on pens)

Posted on: Mon 11 Aug 2008

BOLTON triumphed over their near rivals Manchester City with an exciting 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory in the Manchester Senior Cup after the game had finished 2-2 through normal time.

The Mancunians were ahead at Leyland's County Ground within 10 minutes when James Poole finished from close range after good build-up play down the flank.

However two goals in three minutes looked to have swung the match Bolton's way after the half-time interval.

Tamir Cohen finished neatly with a shot from just inside the area before Riga's fine first time volley from 20-yards put the Trotters ahead with a little under 15 minutes remaining.

Paul Marshall's last minute header took the game to the dreaded spot-kicks, but it was Bolton who held their nerve to win after the seventh round of penalties.
