Ebi Smolarek is happy with the way his first week at Bolton Wanderers has turned out, aside from the result against Arsenal.

The Poland forward put pen-to-paper on a one-year loan deal at the Reebok Stadium on the penultimate day of the transfer window, but the international break and a family bereavement delayed his debut for the club until last Saturday.

Smolarek played the first hour against the Gunners, showing glimpses of his creative capabilities prior to making way for substitute Riga.

And the 27-year-old is confident that the Bolton supporters will see the best of his abilities once he has spent a bit more time acclimatising to life in England.

"It's getting better every day and because I want to play with these players then you have to get to know them," explained Smolarek.

"It was difficult at first because I didn't know them and they didn't know me so it wasn't easy, but it is nice to be accepted by the players and they have all supported me.

"It was my first match and I'd only trained twice with the squad, but it was enjoyable and I liked the crowd because they supported the team even though we lost the game.

"I think I did the job that I had to do and I know I can do more and I will do more. It's normal because it was my first game, but I didn't do anything bad although it wasn't a perfect performance.

"It wasn't an easy game but we have to look forward to the next match. We'll train together all week and see what happens on Saturday."
