Guarding Against Monotony

Posted on: Tue 14 Oct 2008

Gary Megson has highlighted the importance of finding the perfect balance with his training schedule during the international break.

With half of his players away representing their respective nations, the remainder of the Bolton squad have been put through their paces down at Euxton during the two-week period between the West Ham United and Blackburn Rovers fixtures.

And the Bolton manager admits that while he has been limited in terms of personnel and preparation, he has been varying the training pattern to avoid repetitiveness.

"You've got to keep the fitness levels up," revealed Megson. "You have to guard against monotony and doing the same things with the players each time.

"As we stand at the moment there are no goalkeepers here because they are all away on international duty, so you can't do too much in that department.

"You have to try and get the balance right so that the players get enough rest but do enough work."
