International Round-Up
It was a mixed evening for the four Bolton Wanderers players on international duty in World Cup Qualifiers on Wednesday.
After sitting out of the defeat against Holland at the weekend, Gretar Steinsson returned to the Iceland starting line-up and played the full 90 minutes in their 1-0 victory over Macedonia. Veigar Gunnarsson's first-half winner was enough to seal a vital three points for Olafur Johannesson's men in European Qualifying Group Nine.
Ricardo Gardner captained Jamaica in their fine 1-0 victory over Honduras in North, Central America and Caribbean Qualifying Group Two.
Jussi Jaaskelainen played in goal for Finland in their 3-0 defeat in Russia in European Qualifying Group Four.
Ebi Smolarek had put Poland into a 1-0 lead against Slovakia in European Qualifying Group Three, however Stanislav Sestak struck two goals in two minutes late on to snatch an important victory for the hosts.
Meanwhile on Tuesday night, Fabrice Muamba came off the bench to play the last hour in England U21s' 2-2 draw with Wales at Villa Park. The result gave Stuart Pearce's team an overall 5-4 aggregate win, meaning England progress to the U21 Championships next summer.
