Gary Megson has hailed Jussi Jaaskelainen as one of the top three goalkeepers in the country.

The big Finn looks set to make his 400th appearance for Bolton Wanderers on Sunday against Manchester City, and Megson paid tribute to the 33-year-old's fantastic achievement.

The Bolton manager also praised goalkeeping coach Fred Barber for his skills in nurturing Jaaskelainen into a world class stopper over the course of the last decade.

Megson said: "It's a great achievement and he has proved to be a fantastic signing by Colin Todd.

Jussi Jasskelainen and Fred Barber

"Fred Barber, who is as good a goalkeeping coach as anyone in the country, has brought Jussi through and is doing the same with Ali Al-Habsi. He's a very good goalkeeping coach and the people who work with him on a daily basis would bear testimony to that.

"But Jussi himself is a great lad, a great trainer and he is probably in the top three goalkeepers in the country.

"In the Tottenham game a couple spilled out of his hands and it probably was a mistake for the penalty, but I thought he was excellent against Everton without having a huge amount to do.

"His distribution and his talking was first class and he made a fine save when he had to in the last minute, so it's great to have him here."
