Freeview Video: Bogdan Ready If Called Upon

Posted on: Fri 02 Jan 2009

Wanderers' Hungarian goalkeeper Adam Bogdan admits to being 'excited' at the prospect of being on stand-by for Bolton over the next couple of weeks.

With Ali Al Habsi participating in the Gulf Cup, Bogdan is set to fill the Omani international's void on the substitutes' bench for this weekend's FA Cup clash away at Sunderland.

And should Oman reach the final of the competition then Al Habsi would be away on international duty until at least Saturday 17 January, meaning Bogdan, who has impressed in the reserve team this season, could be named in Gary Megson's matchday squad for the matches against Sunderland, Arsenal and Manchester United.

"I'm very excited about it, but it is what I work for," he said.

"The only thing that makes it a bit special is that I'm going to be on the bench, and I'm really excited about that and I can't wait for tomorrow.

"I've been thinking about the chance I have, but I wouldn't say I'm nervous about tomorrow, I'm more excited about it."

With Craig Gordon out injured, Bogdan's international team mate Marton Fullop is likely to be guarding the opposition goal on Saturday afternoon.

Bogdan is pleased to see his fellow countryman making a name for himself in the Premier League and he hopes that he can replicate Fullop's achievements in the coming years.

The 21-year-old said: "We speak nearly every week, so I can say that he is my friend. It's going to be very interesting and I'm very proud that he is playing at Sunderland and it's great for Hungary as well that he is playing in the Premier League.

"He's only three years older than me. When I was younger I didn't look up to him because he was nearly the same age as me.

"But if he can break into the Premier League and play at a big club like Sunderland then it gives more encouragement to me to do my work and say to myself that I can do it as well.

"He's shown that it is possible."
