Gary Megson pulled no punches in his assessment of the 3-0 defeat at Everton, saying that Wanderers got a result that their performance deserved.
The Manager labelled the display as 'poor' and felt that his team failed to take advantage of the fact that Everton endured a gruelling two-hour long derby with Liverpool only three days earlier.
Speaking after full-time, Megson said: "We were poor from the first minute right the way through to the 90th minute. You might look at it and say that it is a positive that Chris Basham went on the pitch and proved to be the best player in the time that he was on.
"We wanted to stay solid and we thought that with Everton having played for two hours on Wednesday, if we could take the initial sting out of the fact that they were at home, then we could go on from there but we didn't have anybody playing anywhere near like they can.
"I think Jo won the penalty and it was very clever in the way he has done it. The second one was pathetic and he (Walton) has given handball for someone who has hit the ball against Mark Davies from a yard. It's another goal against us in the goals against column, but it didn't alter the course of the game.
"We wasted the first 45 minutes and spoke at half-time about how we needed to start competing, get the next goal and make the most of the fact that this team had been out on that pitch for two hours on Wednesday, but we didn't do that.
"If you are not going to be constructive when you've got the ball then you have got to be a lot better without it."
Megson was forced to make one change ahead of the game with Ricardo Gardner withdrawing in the build-up to kick-off with an injury.
The Wanderers boss clarified the situation, saying: "The team that would have started would have included Ricardo Gardner. He trained yesterday with no ill-effects but he woke up this morning and said that his knee was sore. We changed it and we hadn't got anybody else to bring into the squad at this late hour."
