Matthew Taylor played down any personal plaudits following his dynamic display against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.
The midfielder claimed Wanderers' only goal of the game, a strike that looked for long periods like it would have been enough to claim all three points for Bolton.
It was a relentless display from Taylor, who was determined to get his name on the scoresheet following a number of attempts in the first half, all of which were saved in fantastic fashion by England goalkeeper Scott Carson.
It was the 27-year-old's eighth goal of the season, and although he was pleased to add to his tally, he would have swapped his 62nd minute strike for three points.
Taylor revealed: "It's always nice to score but I would have happy if somebody else had, even if it had been an own goal, as long as we take three points. It's nice to get back on the goalscoring trail because I hadn't scored since West Ham.
"I probably could have had a couple though. The keeper has done really well when I hit a couple of good free-kicks. By the time I got to the one towards the end I was a little bit too tired, and to be fair, I think my touch was okay but Carson got out to me really quickly.
"I kept getting into goalscoring positions and I think we showed that if you keep buying a ticket then you are likely to win the raffle and one has gone in for me, which is nice."
Taylor, like his manager Gary Megson and captain Kevin Davies, felt that Bolton had dominated proceedings and were extremely unlucky not to come away with what would have been a thoroughly deserved victory.
"It was a difficult pill to swallow," added the wide-man.
"We got back to basics and when we do the basics well, nine times out ten we play well and should win football matches. They pushed on a little bit in the second half, but I've got to be honest and say that when they were putting those balls into the box, I didn't feel threatened at all.
"Danny was exceptional when he came on, Gary (Cahill), Gretski (Steinsson) and Jlloyd headed everything. But it was just one of those ones, their goal was the only shot they had, it was flying about five yards wide, takes a nick and goes in.
"We are top of that elusive group at the moment, we are about five or six points better off than we were last season and if you had offered that at the beginning of the season then I'm sure we would have taken it."
