Samuel: A Well Deserved Point

Posted on: Mon 27 Apr 2009

Jlloyd Samuel felt that Saturday's point against Aston Villa was the least that Bolton Wanderers merited for their efforts.

Wanderers showed great character to get back on level terms in the second half thanks to a strike from Tamir Cohen following a fortuitous opening goal by Ashley Young moments before the interval.

The 28-year-old full-back is calling for more of the same spirit in the club's remaining four fixtures in the aim of finishing as high up the Barclays Premier League table as possible and improving on last season's 16th position.

Samuel said: "It was a well deserved point and we didn't deserve to go 1-0 down, to be honest. We felt that we were on the front foot and that things were going okay. It was a freakish goal to concede and then we did well to get back into the match.

"The equaliser was more of a relief than anything because, like I say, we didn't deserve to be behind. If we perform like that until the end of the season then we should be in good stead.

"We have to keep plugging away because it's not over yet. Progress for us is where we finish, and with four games remaining then we need to try and take as many points as we possibly can to finish as high as possible.

"We can't rest on our laurels because we know that it's a tough run-in. At this stage of the season anything can happen and teams can get freak results."

Samuel has been an ever present at left-back for Bolton this season, featuring in all 34 Premier League fixtures plus the two cup matches against Northampton Town and Sunderland.

And with the games against Wigan Athletic, Sunderland, Hull City and Manchester City to play, the former Aston Villa man hopes that he can continue to play his part in the climax to the season.

Samuel added: "Touch wood, everything will go well and I can do that, but I'm just looking to the next game. Everyone wants to play as many games as possible, so that's all that I'm trying to do."
