Wanderers make their shortest away trip of the season on Saturday afternoon when they head to the JJB Stadium to face local rivals Wigan Athletic.

Ahead of the meeting with the Latics, Gary Megson held his customary pre-match press conference on Thursday morning.

Gary, with four games to go what are your thoughts on the way it has gone?
We are getting there, I felt that the point against Aston Villa last week was a good point given the circumstances of the two clubs, but we would prefer to get there in a different mode. We would like to be winning games and pushing up the table.

With each week that goes by and if we can get a decent result, then that is one game less where we can be caught. What we do know is that if we can go to Wigan, put in a really good performance and win there, then we've got a fantastic chance of getting where we want to be.

How good of a job do you feel that Steve Bruce has done at Wigan?
Steve Bruce is a good manager and a good guy, but everyone has done a good job there.

Wigan are a very similar club to ourselves. They have done really well and find themselves three points above us on 41 points.

It's a big game from our point of view. They are our near neighbours and they beat us at the Reebok earlier in the season in a game that was decided by a penalty which was more of an accident that intent. Plus, in the last minute we had a goal not given when the ball was over the line.

Saturday will be another tight game and we will want to redress the balance.

Wigan have been finding goals hard to come by of late, does that fill you with confidence?
What fills me with confidence is watching our players play and train, not other people's.

I saw the match between Blackburn and Wigan, and whilst they might have found goals hard to come by, they were creating chances. It was just one of those games for them.

With two away games remaining, it would be great to end the season with a victory on the road.
We have won more away games than we did last season, but we still want to try and win all four games that we have left to play.

Of late, we haven't been solid enough away from home, having said that, we have won more games than any team in the bottom half of the table along with Wigan and we are the highest scorers in the bottom half of the Premier League.

There is undoubtedly progress from the club in the Premier League table compared to the same point last year, but how pleased are you with the way everything is shaping up behind the scenes?
It's sometimes a bit simplistic and you do get judged on where you are and the points that you have got.

There are a lot of other things, for example walking around the place and seeing the difference to what it was 12 months ago - it has definitely changed for the better. So it's not just the things that you see on the pitch, but off it as well.
