Pre-Match: Wigan v Bolton
Posted on: Sat 02 May 2009
Hello and welcome to the JJB Stadium for Bolton's clash with near neighbours Wigan Athletic. The sun is out and it's pretty warm conditions here ahead of kick-off.
Wanderers have enjoyed mixed fortunes at the JJB Stadium since the Latics won promotion to the Premier League in 2005, winning one and losing two of three fixtures that have been played.
Of course, Bolton supporters will need no reminding of the corresponding match at the Reebok back in December when an Amr Zaki penalty was enough to give Steve Bruce's men a 1-0 win, and over 3,500 fans have made the short journey to hopefully see Wanderers gain revenge.
The matchday programme has an informative few pages on Bolton Wanderers with an interesting column focusing on the players who have represented both clubs over the years. Wanderers World caught up with Tony Kelly in midweek to discuss his time at Springfield Park but you can also add the likes of Dave Felgate, David Lee, Per Frandsen Gareth Farrelly, Scott Green, Simon Farnworth and Stuart Storer to the list of players who wore both the shirt of the Trotters and the Latics.
There's also a snippet casting memories back to the first league meeting between the two sides which took place in 1983 when a Jeff Chandler goal was enough to give Bolton a 1-0 win in front of 10,045 spectators.
Anyhow, that's enough of the past and we'll turn our attentions to today's clash. The teams have just been announced and the big news is that there isn't really any news! Gary Megson has stuck with the same team from last week's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, meaning that for a second week in succession there is no Ricardo Gardner.
Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Samuel, O'Brien, Cahill, Steinsson, Cohen, McCann, Muamba, Davies, Taylor, Elmander (Subs: Al Habsi, Puygrenier, Hunt, Makukula, Smolarek, Basham, Riga)
Wigan: Kirkland, Melchiot, Scharner, Bramble, Figueroa, Valencia, Brown, Cattermole, N'Zogbia, Rodallega, Mido (Subs: Pollitt, Boyce, Edman, de Ridder, Koumas, Watson, Zaki)
