Fab Stars As England Stun Spain

Posted on: Fri 19 Jun 2009

FABRICE MUAMBA put in a man-of-the-match performance as England beat Spain to book themselves a slot in the European Under 21 Championships semi-final in Sweden on Thursday night.

The Wanderers midfielder was pivotal in breaking up the slick passing play of the Spaniards.

Strikes from Fraizer Campbell and James Milner, who could afford to miss a first-half penalty, ensured the young Three Lions claimed their second consecutive victory of the tournament.

But it was the former Birmingham City and Arsenal midfielder who was singled out by manager Stuart Pearce.

He said: "Fabrice Muamba, I think was absolutely unbelievable tonight. I thought his performance was as good a performance in an England shirt in a holding role that I've ever seen."

Pearce's lads now face Germany in their final group game before advancing to the knock-out stage of the competition.
