Fabrice Muamba looks set to play a pivotal part in England U21s quest for European glory in tonight's (Monday) final against old rivals Germany.

The 21-year-old is expected to retain his place in midfield for the showpiece in Malmo after playing a starring role in England's previous games in the tournament.

Muamba earned plaudits for his individual displays against both Finland and Spain in the group stages with coach Stuart Pearce even describing his performance against the Spanish as one of the best he has ever seen from a holding midfielder for England.

Muamba, along with a number of his team mates, was rested for the 1-1 draw against Germany in the final group game with qualification already ensured. However he returned to the starting line-up for Friday's enthralling semi-final penalty shoot-out victory over Sweden.

Stuart Pearce's task has been made slightly tougher as he will be unable to call upon goalkeeper Joe Hart and strikers Gabriel Agbonlahor and Fraizer Campbell, who are all out through suspension.

Live coverage of the 2009 European U21 Championship final is on Sky Sports 1 from 7pm, with the match commencing at 7.45pm.
