Manager Happy With 'Good Workout'

Posted on: Sat 25 Jul 2009

Gary Megson described Saturday's 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach as a 'really good workout'.

The Manager was not only pleased with the standard of Bolton Wanderers' performance but also that his entire touring squad - aside from Jussi Jaaskelainen, Zat Knight and Sam Ricketts - got at least a half's worth of football.

He said: "I didn't want to include Zat and Sam because they only arrived last night but overall, with it being our first pre-season game, then I couldn't have asked for much more. We played a very good Borussia side, drew 1-1 and picked up no injuries.

"The three who stayed on for the full 90 minutes - Mark Davies, Chris Basham and Andy O'Brien - began to tire but that is to be expected because it is the first time they have played a competitive match since the end of last season on May 24.

"In the first half I thought we looked really good and in the second half making so many substitutions was always going to disrupt the way the game was going.

"That was Borussia's sixth game of pre-season and that started to show towards the end of the game. But it was a really good workout for both clubs."
