Manager: The World Of Good

Posted on: Wed 29 Jul 2009

Gary Megson was not only pleased with the result against Den Bosch but also the manner of the Bolton Wanderers performance.

Again match fitness was the priority as Bolton built upon the weekend draw against Monchengladbach with another competent and compact display, earning a 2-1 victory.

The Manager said: "As pre-season games go, I thought it was more than we could have hoped for. A lot of players got the first 90 minutes under their belt.

"There was some good football played and obviously there are some things that we need to work on but the new players in there put in really good performances and that was pleasing.

"Everybody got 45 minutes the other day against Monchengladbach, but we wanted to reverse that this evening where more people got 90 minutes.

"Fitness-wise that will do us the world of good. I thought we were excellent for an hour and then we started to tire. Their goal will go down as a fluke but it was still disappointing to concede."

Sam Ricketts capped his first game in Bolton colours with the opening goal of the evening while Zat Knight looked assured on debut in the heart of Wanderers' defence, a sight which encouraged Megson.

He said: "They both played well, as did Robbo (Paul Robinson). There were a lot of strong performances - Johan looked much more like himself and Kevin Davies playing up top is always going to be a handful.

"Sean Davis has set off really well too and we are hoping that he can take that form into the start of the season. "
