Riga Raring For New Season

Posted on: Wed 29 Jul 2009

In an exclusive interview with the official website, Riga says he's ready to repay the Bolton Wanderers Manager and fans for their faith and support during his first season in the Barclays Premier League.

The attacking ace made 18 appearances during the 2008/2009 season after moving from Levante in Spanish football.

"For me, last year was important because it was a learning year and a good experience," reflected the Ghana-born attacker.

"I wasn't fit when I arrived and not prepared, so I had a lot to do and the boss was patient with me. Now that I am having a good pre-season, I am feeling 100 percent fitter than I was at this time last year.

"When you don't have that preparation it is very difficult to catch up. I was only ready by the time the game against Arsenal came along at the end of September, so it shows just how much of a loss it was not to complete a pre-season.

"I was pleased to break into the starting line-up for the games against Everton and Manchester City and I felt that I was starting to improve, however the ankle injury I picked up knocked me back for the rest of the season. But that's football."

Riga's signing in the summer transfer window last season beat off competition from a number of other Premier League clubs and the player says he is in no doubt he made the right choice.

The 27-year-old added: "When I knew Bolton were interested and I spoke with the manager I was convinced and made my decision.

"The Manager has been great with me and the fans have been fantastic too because they also believe in me. I want to thank them and I am hoping to repay that faith with my performances this season.

"I know what the Manager expects from me and I am determined to take that opportunity when it is offered. I want to succeed here and I believe that is possible. We have some new players and the spirit in the squad is good.

"They are strong players and I think the fans will like them too."
