Gardner Targets More Goals

Posted on: Tue 06 Oct 2009

Following on from his strike against Tottenham Hotspur, Ricardo Gardner has set himself a goal target for the season.

The Jamaican opened his account in just his third start after missing the opening weeks of the season with a hamstring strain.

Gardner went almost six years without a goal in the Barclays Premier League prior to last season, but during the 2008/09 campaign, the 31-year-old rediscovered his shooting boots, chipping in with four important strikes.

"I have set myself a good target, starting with wanting to score more than last season" explained Gardner. "I'm focusing on that and I'm going to try and help my team in whatever way I can.

"The players that I have got around me are fantastic and I think that they will help me a lot in achieving that goal. We are all gelling together nicely but there's still room to get better and better each time we play."

Gardner moved to Bolton from Harbour View as a 20-year-old in 1998, and he admitted that there was plenty of culture differences in England compared to Jamaica.

He has since gone on to accumulate over 350 appearances for Bolton Wanderers, and he believes that Chung-Yong Lee can have a long and fruitful career at the Reebok once he fully adjusts to the English way of life.

Gardner added: "I think he has done very well and all the players have helped him settle in. He has shown already what talent he has and I'm sure that he still has plenty more to offer to the team in the future.

"He has a lot of confidence, keeps a smile on his face and that shows that he is enjoying his football."
