Gary Cahill Update

Posted on: Mon 08 Feb 2010

Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Gary Cahill will face a spell on the sidelines after he was diagnosed with a blood clot in his left arm.

The defender was admitted to hospital on Saturday where he received treatment and the clot has now been successfully dissolved.

Decisions in regards to further treatment will be made by the club during the course of the week.

Manager Owen Coyle said: "On Thursday, Gary felt tightness in his arm and on Friday there was a little bit of swelling. He came in for the game on Saturday morning and the swelling was quite serious, and after further examination the medical staff decided to take him to the hospital straight away.

"Gary is a top-class individual and he wanted to play on Saturday, but we took the decision out of his hands because his well-being is of paramount importance.

"Gary is a fantastic professional and when you work with him on a daily basis then you realise the quality that he has. I've been really taken by the way he goes about his work and the performances that he has delivered for me and the football club.

"Gary will come back and continue to be a top, top footballer."
