Coyle Looks To Sunderland

Posted on: Mon 08 Mar 2010

Owen Coyle has urged his players to continue where they left off at Upton Park as the Whites prepare for another away fixture against Sunderland on Tuesday evening.

While the manager labelled the effort at the weekend as a 'tremendous performance', he is fully aware that a repeat showing is required to ensure that Wanderers have an opportunity to carry on their recent winning ways.

Coyle said: "I was delighted with the three points first and foremost.

"We were at it from the first whistle, taking the game to West Ham considering we were away from home. I thought we got our just rewards because we were worthy of the points.

"But there is so much hard work ahead of us and we recognise there are some tough games coming up, starting with Sunderland on Tuesday.

"Hopefully the lads have taken a lot of confidence from Saturday and they have to go out and replicate that performance again. If they do, we will have a real chance of earning points from the match.

"There will be over 40,000 vociferous supporters in a beautiful arena. They have a quality manager and some very good players, and we accept that they have been on indifferent run.

"But we all know in football that you only need one boost to get the form going again and we have to make sure that for them it doesn't come against us on Tuesday night.

"Winning the two games has obviously elevated us up the table but we recognise that if we lose a few games then we will be back where we don't want to be, so we are determined to continue moving forwards."

For the second match in succession, Coyle will be forced to make at least one change to his starting line-up following Tamir Cohen's red card against the Hammers.

With Sean Davis, Chris Basham, Joey O'Brien, Stuart Holden, Gavin McCann and Mark Davies all on the treatment table, the Manager says that he will have to take stock of his options in the middle of the pitch.

He added: "We aren't blessed with numbers in central midfield at this moment in time. Tamir Cohen is suspended, so we will have to juggle what we have.

"We are hopeful Mark Davies will join in training with us this week, but it might be too early for him to be involved on Tuesday night."
