Owen Coyle is confident that the players who are injury doubts will be fit to take their place in the squad for this Saturday's derby against Wigan Athletic.

The Manager had to reshuffle his team on several occasions at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening, but he hopes that a couple of his key performers will be available for selection.

"There are a number of injuries but we will get on with it, put a smile on our faces and we will go out there on Saturday to win a game of football," said Coyle.

"A couple of players missed training today but I am hopeful that they will be back with us on Friday.

"Tamir Cohen will be back available for the weekend. Fabrice Muamba came off injured the other night and Jack Wilshere took a knock, and I'm hopeful that they will be okay for Saturday too.

"Mark Davies has been doing his rehab with the physios and we will assess where he is today. He has been out for a couple of games and because the injury is the one he sustained at Arsenal then we have to tread carefully."

Coyle also offered an update on the other members of the squad that are currently on the treatment table.

He added: "There are obviously long-term injuries to Sean Davies, Joey O'Brien and Stuart Holden.

"But Sam Ricketts is suspended after his two yellow cards at Sunderland. He will have a couple of days off as well because he has been playing for some time with a few niggles.

"Chris Basham is still a few weeks away but it is disappointing news for Gavin McCann, who has had a bad ankle injury.

"We tried to rest it for a period of time but he saw the specialist the other day and he will now need an operation which will rule him out of the rest of the season and possibly some time after that."
