Manager's Injury Update

Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010
Owen Coyle has revealed that it won't be until shortly before kick-off until a decision is made on whether Ivan Klasnic will be involved against Birmingham City.

The Croatian striker scored the winning goal against Southampton in midweek in his first start since rejoining the club on a two-year deal.

But he was forced from the field at half-time with a slight thigh strain.

"It certainly doesn't look like a two or three week job but we can't take any chances on him," said the Manager.

"He missed the majority of the pre-season and he is trying to build up his fitness, so we don't want to do anything detrimental.

"We've got another couple of days to see whether he will be alright for Sunday."

Coyle also explained that Sean Davis is likely to be sidelined for the next two months as a precaution after feeling some discomfort in his right knee.

The former Fulham midfielder missed virtually the whole of last season after undergoing surgery to repair an articular cartilage injury, and the manager says that he will take no chances.

"Sean played for the reserves the other week against Manchester City and he felt a little twinge in his knee. We've done a scan and he has been told to rest completely for six to eight weeks.

"It's disappointing for Sean and the football club because he has worked ever so hard to get himself in decent shape but we have to make sure that we do the right thing.

"It's the advice that we have been given and that's where we are with everything."

Aside from Klasnic and Davis, Coyle has no other injury concerns for Sunday's clash with Alex McLeish's side.
