Davies: We Have Great Belief

Posted on: Mon 30 Aug 2010
Kevin Davies is already looking forward to Wanderers' next Premier League outing against Arsenal, stressing that the players will go to the Emirates with plenty of belief following Sunday's second-half fight-back against Birmingham.

The captain says that Bolton are long overdue a victory against one of the high profile Premier League clubs and the resilient display will give the squad plenty of heart, even though the clash with Arsene Wenger's side is still 12 days away.

The game against Arsenal kick-starts a busy month of fixtures for Bolton with further matches against Aston Villa, Burnley and Manchester United to come in September.

"I don't think that we have beaten one of the top four or five teams for a couple of years," said the skipper.

"Hopefully everyone will come back after the international break fit and well and we can go down to the Emirates and give it our all. We will have to be at our very best to get something out of the game.

"The lads are in great spirits because this result feels like a win and I'm really proud to be a part of it.

"At two-nil and down to ten men then you don't expect to get anything out of the game. We've shown great spirit and belief and we always felt that we were going to be in the game, even with Jussi's sending-off.

"We've worked really hard in these four matches to remain unbeaten and the lads deserve a lot of credit because we've started really well after a good pre-season."

Kevin Davies

Davies explained that he was happy to step up and take the spot kick which set the wheels in motion for Wanderers' comeback.

He explained: "Over the last year or two, Matty Taylor has been the one to take penalties but he wasn't on the park.

"I scored one last year against
Wigan and I wanted to step up as captain to try and get us back in the game. I'm pretty confident on them now.

"Robbie Blake was after it but I wanted to take it and I'm pleased that it helped to get us back in the game."

Although a superb team effort was needed to rescue the point, Davies also highlighted two key individual performances.

Adam Bogdan

He added: "Everyone has been watching Adam (Bogdan) develop over the last couple of years and he has certainly come on and proved his worth.

"The manager has shown a lot of confidence in him and at the end he has made superb save to get us a point.

"We see day in day out that Robbie (Blake) is a brilliant finisher. He is not only a great football player but a great lad as well.

"I'm really pleased to have him as a part of our dressing room and he deserves everything he gets. He has been working really hard and he is fighting like everyone else to get in the side.

"It was a fantastic free-kick but that is what he is capable of doing."
