Blake Aiming For More Opportunities

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010
After coming off the substitutes' bench to help rescue a draw for Bolton on Sunday, Robbie Blake says that he will be doing all that he can to earn more first-team opportunities.

The former Burnley forward has had to bide his time since signing on at the club at the beginning of July.

He made his first start for Wanderers in last week's Carling Cup victory at Southampton before striking the point-saving free-kick against his Birmingham on Sunday afternoon.

Blake said: "Whether you are starting in the cup games or coming off the bench in the Premier League, you have got to try and make a point that if you are called upon then you can do a job.

"Everybody has got to be patient because such is the quality that we have got at the football club then it is no disgrace to be out of the side.

"Hopefully if I get the chance - be it through an injury or suspensions - then I can take it."

Wanderers are next in action a week on Saturday when they travel to the Emirates to tackle Arsenal, and Blake says that the international break has come at the right time.

He explained: "We can enjoy a bit of time off with our families. It's a positive start and we want to keep this unbeaten run going for as long as possible.

"We are sitting nicely in the Premier League and it breeds confidence throughout the team. It's a nice feeling to see where we are.

Blake also had a word to say about the Carling Cup third round draw, which will see Wanderers head to Burnley.

The 34-year-old enjoyed two spells with the Clarets, making 281 appearances and scoring 72 goals.

"I didn't believe it when I heard," he added. "I thought someone was winding me up so I had to look on Sky Sports News to check.

"I would've preferred it to be next season in the Premier League but it was probably just meant to be with the Gaffer and myself.

"They have started the Championship season very well and we've started the Premier League well. If we go there and play well then I'm sure that we can go through."
