Cahill Stars In His England Debut

Posted on: Sat 04 Sep 2010

Gary Cahill

Gary Cahill made his England debut on Friday night as England beat Bulgaria 4-0 at Wembley.

The Bolton centre-half replaced the injured Michael Dawson with just over half an hour to play and produced a solid performance alongside Phil Jagielka to earn the side a clean sheet.

Cahill, who played against his club team-mate, Martin Petrov, becomes the first Wanderer to represent England since Michael Ricketts earned his first and only cap in an away friendly with the Netherlands in 2002.

But Cahill will now be pushing to double his tally when England travel to Basel on Tuesday night to play Switzerland, as they look to enhance their position at the top of Group G.
