Rodrigo Is A Happy Wanderer

Posted on: Wed 08 Sep 2010

Wanderers' latest signing Rodrigo Moreno says that he is already settling into life at the club, even though he has only had two training sessions with his new team-mates.

The 19-year-old, who completed his season-long loan switch from Benfica last week, was officially unveiled at a press conference on Tuesday morning.

And he revealed that his time with Wanderers has already started on a positive note.

"It was very special," said Rodrigo about his first day at the club.

"I enjoy training anyhow but it was even nicer because I got the chance to meet the manager and my team-mates.

"A couple of the players speak Spanish, such as Marcos Alonso, so they welcomed me into the group. I can only thank them for making me feel comfortable.

"It has been an anxious few days because I was coming into training for the first time, but now that I have done that then I can look forward to my football.

"Obviously it will take a few weeks to settle into everything because there is a lot for me to get used to like the climate and new methods of training but I think everything will come together in the best possible way.

"I've only been here a day but I've really enjoyed it so far and I want to work as hard as I can."

Rodrigo admits that he might be forced to wait for his debut, but has stressed that once that opportunity comes then he will be ready to grab it with both hands.

The Brazilian-born Spain U19 international added: "That will be an option for the manager to decide because he knows better than everyone when I'm ready to play.

"What I can say however is that once I'm called upon then I will give my best shot to help Bolton Wanderers.

"There are some fantastic games to come in this first month of being here and I hope that come the end of September then we have the best results possible.

"There's no doubt that the teams we are playing are very tough but we have to trust ourselves because we all know what we can do."

Just like his close friend and fellow new signing at the club, Marcos Alonso, Rodrigo also hails from rich footballing pedigree.

His father, Adalberto Machado, was a former star of the Brazilian League in the 1980s with Flamengo, playing alongside legends of the game such as Socrates, Zico and Bebeto.

And whilst he explains that his parents have been a big influence on his career, it's the more recent generation of Brazilian talent that he has looked up to and admired.

"My heroes are Ronaldo and Rivaldo," added Rodrigo. "People say that I resemble Rivaldo with the way that I look and play.

"He is a legend of the game who has achieved so much success in his career. It's hard to be compared to someone so great."
