A STELIOS goal with his first touch after coming on as a half-time substitute was enough to help Bolton to clinch a point in this nervy encounter at White Hart Lane. Steed Malbranque however wiped the smiles of the Bolton faces for the home side with the equaliser.
With Reading and Birmingham getting draws, Bolton are still 5th from bottom but just a point ahead of safety meaning that the next two games at home to Sunderland and away at Chelsea will determine Wanderers' fate.
The first half was short on action despite the glorious London weather. Bolton sat back and tried to keep things tight in the first half although Tottenham, to their credit, tried to go out for the win despite having little to play for.
Spurs could not find any real openings though despite the diminutive Robbie Keane proving to be a thorn in the side as far as Bolton were concerned. It was Keane who almost got Tottenham in front, albeit inadvertantly - the Republic of Ireland striker deflected Gilberto's free kick onto Al Habsi's post.
At half-time Gary Megson decided to up the ante and threw on Stelios and Diouf at the expense of Rasiak and Campo (the Spaniard was somewhat harshly booked in the first half by referee Clattenburg).
The substitutions worked instantly. Stelios making a rare appearance this season scored with his first touch!
With barely a minute of the second half on the clock, Diouf with some sharp play on the wing laid the ball to Guthrie who sent a low cross to the post. This caused pandemonium in the Spurs box and Stelios slid the ball home to send the travelling Wanderers faithful into raptures. The Wanderers fans were once again magnificient on the road and turned out in force.
The celebrations were short-lived however as Spurs woke up and turned the heat up. Jenas found Keane and the Irishman's shot on the turn hit Cahill and the ball fell to Malbranque who made no mistake from close range.
Danger man Keane's run and shot moments later forced Al Habsi into a smart save. In truth, Bolton's Omani keeper kept the Whites in the game with a series of brilliant saves.
Bolton had few chances in the second half with Diouf having the best of them but couldn't find a way through.
In the end it was Bolton hanging on for the draw which ensures that Bolton's fate is still very much in their own hands.
