STELIOS HIT an equaliser with the last kick of the game to ruin the celebrations of his countrymen and salvage a last-gasp point for Bolton Wanderers.
The Greek international poked home from close-range as Wanderers threw eveything forward after Calvo Aran had volleyed his side into the lead a minute before the half-time interval.
Wanderers created numerous chances throughout the contest and seemed as if it was going to be a frustrating night for Gary Megson's men until Wanderers' Greek international netted deep into injury time to keep his side on course for qualification to the last 32.
With the Liverpool game coming up on Sunday, Megson made four change to the side that beat Manchester United at the weekend.
Kevin Nolan, Nicky Hunt and Danny Guthrie, who will all miss the Anfield test, started the game, and Stelios, Gerald Cid, Christian Wilhelmsson and Gavin McCann were recalled.
Guthrie, who has been in great form for Wanderers of late, tried to test the Aris goalkeeper as early as the fourth minute when he latched onto a Kevin Davies knockdown. But the on-loan midfielder could only flash his shot wide.
Aris winger Neto was a bundled of tricks over on the right and was allowed the time and space to put in a perfect cross for Koke, who couldn't hit the target with a header.
Wanderers lost the services of McCann on 11 minutes when he received a wound to the head. The midfielder had to have stitches for the wound. Mikel Alonso came on for him.
The visitors liked to keep the ball on the ground and were technically very good. Koke's probing run allowed him to find Siston, who could only shoot wide without troubling Jaaskelainen.
Wanderers, albeit more infrequently, could play some neat football themselves - and one such move between Alonso and Stelios resulted in the Greek putting in an inviting cross for Davies, who uncharacteristically was off target with a header.
Alonso was busy in midfield and always had his eye open for goal and was unlucky not to find the target from 25 yards with a swift left footer.
But it was Aris who managed to break the deadlock just a minute before half-time. Neto was allowed to put in another cross from wide, but this time Meite appeared to clear the ball. However, the ball feel into the path Calvo whose first time volley beat Jaaskelainen.
Wanderers could have drawn level within sixty seconds when Davies' flicked on Stelios' corner into the path of central defender Andy O'Brien, who somehow hit the cross bar when it would have been easier to score.
Wanderers pressed and pressed and were determined to get something out of the game but Aris always looked capable on the counter.
With time running out and Wanderers yet to seriously test the Aris goalkeeper, Megson threw on Anelka and Diouf.
The pair added a bit more finesse to the front line but Wanderers were still unable to find away past Chalkias.
Aris almost added a second on 83 minutes when Karamepelas tried to chip Jaaskelainen from distance, only for the Finn to spectacularly tip over the midfielder's effort.
But in the second minute of time-added on, and what ultimately proved to be the last kick of the game, Stelios found himself in the right place to stab Hunt's pass beyond Chalkias to keep Wanderers in the UEFA Cup.
A win against Crvena Zvezda on Thursday week will send Wanderers through to the last 32.
