The first half of the 2009/10 season couldn't have gone any better for the Sheffield-born star.
He was once again named in several England squads and fortified his reputation as one of the best young centre-halves in the country.
The former Aston Villa man, who was purchased for a fee of £5m in January 2008, also chipped in with goals to help see off the threat of Portsmouth, Everton and West Ham twice.
Cahill has shown great mental strength and attitude to recover from a blood clot in his left arm - which resulted in 7 weeks on the sidelines - to return to full fitness and play an important part in Wanderers' run-in.
And having enjoyed an impressive 2010/11 pre-season, he was once again called up to Fabio Capello's squad for England's friendly with Hungary.
Prior to joining Wanderers, the central defender came through the ranks at Villa Park. He is best remembered amongst the Aston Villa fans for his superb volleyed goal against city rivals Birmingham in the deby in 2004.
He also had a short spell on loan at Sheffield United in 2007, where he made 16 appearances and scored two goals.
