Steinsson's second full season at Bolton started in frustration when illness forced him to miss the opening fixture against Sunderland in August 2009.

It took the Icelander three months to regain his spot at right-back, and upon doing so, last season's Community Player of Year played in almost every game until the end of the campaign in his favoured position.

His only goal of the season came in Bolton's 2-0 victory over Sheffield United in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

A January transfer window signing in 2008, the Iceland international has slotted seamlessly into Wanderers' backline.

A tough, no-nonsense defender, Steinsson has wasted little time in winning a place in the affections of the Wanderers faithful, turning in a sequence of passionate performances.

A popular character both on and off the field, Steinsson has made several impressive performances at right-back, fully justifying the £3.5m price tag he commanded when the club recruited him from Dutch side AZ Alkmar.

The Icelander also has a reputation for scoring spectacular goals, having opened his account for the club with a stunning long-range cross-come-shot in the 3-1 victory over Stoke City on the opening day of the 2008/9 season. He had to wait the best part of 36 Premier League matches to notch his second strike of his first full campaign, but that too was a 25-yard screamer against Hull City.

His presence in Wanderers' squad continues the club's recent Icelandic tradition, following on from Eidur Gudjohnsen, Gudni Bergsson and Arnar Gunnlaugsson.
