Bolton Reserves 3 Newcastle Reserves 0
Wanderers' second string got their Premier Reserve League campaign up and running with a fine 3-0 victory over their Newcastle counterparts.
Javlon Campbell's first half goal was added to by Ricardo Vaz Te and Nathan Woolfe after the interval in what was an excellent overall team performance from Alan Cork's men.
Jamaica-born Campbell, who netted two goals in the U18s win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend, opened the scoring on 35 minutes at Leyland's County Ground when he capitalised on a misjudgement by Newcastle goalkeeper Krul.
The Magpies stopper came racing out his goal following a long pass over the top, however Ricardo Vaz Te got to the ball first and tried to get a shot in at goal. The ball ricocheted back off Krul's gloves and Campbell was left with the task of converting into the vacant goal with a tidy right-foot volley.
Vaz Te almost made it two moments before half-time when he forced Krul to make an athletic save from an acrobatic overhead kick after latching onto a cross from the right from Zoltan Harsanyi.
The Portugal U21 international didn't have to wait much longer to get on the scoresheet when he got the goal he deserved five minutes into the second half, firing in off the left-hand post after beating one Newcastle defender.
The best goal of the night was saved until last when Nathan Woolfe converted a neat move involving Vaz Te and Campbell on the hour mark.
The nippy winger drilled home from 16 yards with his trusty left foot after taking a touch to bring the ball under control.
The scoreline was a true reflection of the game and the notable performances of Chris Basham and Jaroslaw Fojut in the heart of defence will surely act as another fillip for Gary Megson and his coaching staff.
Next up for the Reserves is a clash with Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park on October 30 in the Manchester Senior Cup as the Wanderers look to go one better in the competition this season after reaching the final in the 2007/08 campaign.
