BOLTON'S young reserve side ultimately found Old Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United line-up too hot to handle as they succumbed to a first home defeat of the season.

Alan Cork's youngsters, whose first-team experience was limited to Ricardo Vaz Te, gave a decent account of themselves in a first-half shaded by the home side.

But after being stung by an opening goal against the run of play in stoppage time, Bolton were then second best after the break as United eased to their first win of the campaign.

"I didn't think we deserved to go in 1-0 down and the second goal was a bit sloppy, but I thought it was a good game," said Cork.

"We had three or four first-years playing and everyone had a go. The only disappointing thing was that we needed a bit more quality in the final third but we had a couple of chances in the first half and we will only improve."

United included Rafael Da Silva at right-back following his recent outing in the Champions League and Polish international Tomasz Kuszczak made his return from injury in goal.

But Bolton made the brightest start with Robert Sissons and Michael Burns giving United no space to play in midfield and following a mistake by Kuszczak it took a goalline clearance from Richard Eckersley to stop Nathan Woolfe from giving Bolton the lead.

With Chris Stokes impressing at the back for Bolton, United made little headway going forward apart from a fierce drive from Federico Macheda, which Robert Lainton parried to safety.

But after Ricardo Vaz Te had missed a chance on the volley from a Woolfe corner, United broke away to snatch the lead as Macheda tapped in after James Derbyshire's deflected shot had come back off the post.

Vaz Te curled an effort just wide after the break as Bolton looked to hit back but poor marking allowed Sam Hewson to double the visitors' lead after 53 minutes and United then went on to dominate.

The best move of the game ended with Tom Cleverley curling a beauty into the top corner 12 minutes later and Bolton were unable to reduce the arrears, despite a late free-kick from Woolfe which forced Kuszczak to make a straight-forward save.
