Everton Reserves 0 Bolton Reserves 3
First half goals by Ebi Smolarek, Heidar Helguson and Joey O'Brien helped set up a comfortable victory for Alan Cork's second string away at Everton.
Bolton made their experience and quality count with a convincing display against their Merseyside counterparts as the Reserves recorded their second victory of the season in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North.
The opening goal of the evening came on 14 minutes when Smolarek found the net with a neat header from five yards out. After the ball had been switched from the left flank to the right, Heidar Helguson played in a delicate cross which the Poland forward nodded back across goal and into corner of the net.
The provider of the first got on the scoresheet later in the first half as Helguson too managed to convert with a header from only a few yards out on 38 minutes. Credit must go to Temitope Obadeyi, who seized possession on the left and put the ball on a plate for Helguson with a pinpoint cross from the byline.
The goal of the evening came within four minutes of the second as Joey O'Brien capped off a fine first half performance by the Wanderers. The versatile midfielder made the most of a mistake in the Everton backline following a long ball over the top as he lifted the ball over the on-rushing Turner with a classy finish from just outside the area.
With the game already secure, Bolton took their foot off the gas after the half-time break although there were still further opportunities to lengthen the lead.
Helguson had a chance to grab his second with another header, however the Iceland international couldn't guide his close-range finish under the crossbar after latching onto Danny Shittu's knock down.
Riga hit a post late on with a shot from distance, but the damage had already been done and Bolton were secure of the points.
