A DRAMATIC late penalty save from Adam Bogdan earned Bolton an unlikely draw and kept them locked level on points with Everton in the top six of the Barclays Premier Reserve League.

Everton defender James McCarten had the chance to win it for the Toffees after Bolton defender Matt Carlisle had been penalised for an innocuous looking challenge on Eunan O'Kane.

But Bogdan guessed right and dived to his left to make a fine save two minutes from time and extend Bolton's unbeaten home run to four games.

"It was a very good save. He made a mistake for their goal but made amends with that," said reserve team coach Alan Cork.

"I was a bit disappointed with the way we played in the second half when we did not keep the ball but the lads keep going and it was another good point with a very young team."

Bolton had led from the 23rd-minute when Temitope Obadyi struck with a shot on the turn from 12 yards following a low cross from Zoltan Harsanyi, who limped off shortly afterwards.

With Rob Sissons also going off injured, the average age of Cork's side dropped even further with eight of the squad used likely to figure against Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup at Anfield on Friday night.

Defender Chris Stokes, who again impressed, was replaced mid-way through the second half to keep him fresh for the last-eight tie.

"We want to make sure Peter Farrell has a good side. They will have an easy day on Tuesday before getting ready for the big game when we will all be there supporting them," Cork added.

Obadeyi also had a couple of chances after the break, sending a rasping drive just wide and then seeing Iain Turner save with his legs following a corner.

But Everton dominated the last half-hour and will be wondering how they failed to win.

McCarten equalised after 62 minutes when he hammered home a 25-yard free-kick after Bogdan had come out of his penalty area but failed to reach the ball and in the confusion Luke Powell was brought down.

The busy Bogdan then made a double save to deny Scott Spencer, while Spencer, Nathan Craig and Shane Duffy all missed chances for the visitors.

Duffy thought he had won it but his wonderful curling shot came back off the inside of a post and even though Carlisle conceded the spot-kick when trying to clear, Bogdan stood firm to have the final word.
