Bury Reserves 0 Bolton Reserves 2
Wanderers Reserves warmed up for the Manchester Senior Cup final with a workmanlike display against local rivals Bury, strolling to a comfortable 2 -0 win at Stainton Park.
The victory, courtesy of a goal in each half by Tope Obadeyi, ensured Bolton's 100 percent record in the competition ahead of the trophy showdown with Manchester United at the Reebok Stadium on May 12.
The victory for Alan Cork's men was made even more impressive considering they had to play the last 30 minutes of the contest with ten men following Chris Stokes' dismissal for violent conduct.
Wanderers made their intentions clear straight from the off when Tope Obadeyi was tugged back by left-back David Thompson after the England junior international had showed a quick pair of heels down the right flank. Nathan Woolfe delivered the resulting free-kick and Danny Ward's glancing header flew just wide of the far post.
Obadeyi cut in from the touchline and tested Bury goalkeeper Cameron Belford with ten minutes played, whilst Shakers' centre-halve Andrai Jones towered to head a corner over the crossbar shortly after.
Danny Ward had arguably the finest opportunity to open the scoring when his one-on-one effort was saved low to his left by Belford once more following Adam Blakeman's neat slide-rule pass.
Alan Cork's men continued to boss what was proving to be a decent encounter with Nathan Woolfe blazing over before Bolton did eventually take the lead on the half hour mark.
Obadeyi, who had shown glimpses of his undoubted potential throughout the first half, was the man to grab the goal, slotting neatly under Belford with his left foot after he had managed to get in behind Bury's defence. Credit must go to Woolfe and Mooy whose neat passing on the right flank had helped forge out the opportunity.
Three minutes before half-time, Bury almost shot themselves in the foot when Krishnan Patel came close to bundling the ball over his own goal line, and not the first time, Obadeyi caused problems for full-back Thompson before shooting powerfully too high of the target.
The enthusiasm of youth ensured that the pace didn't relent at the start of the second half, although it took almost 15 minutes until there was a goalscoring opportunity to note.
Tenacious midfielder Sam Sheridan picked the ball up 30 yards from goal, took a touch to steady himself before firing in a howitzer that not only cleared the crossbar but the small stand behind the Bury goal.
Wanderers were reduced to ten men on 64 minutes when Chris Stokes was shown a straight red card for allegedly lashing out at Luke Charnley. Referee Paul Andrew had no hesitation in sending the young Wanderers defender for an early shower.
The cards didn't stop there as Aaron Mooy and Luke McCarthy were both brandished with yellows for a petty scuffle, whilst Alan Cork looked to reorganise his troops with the introduction of Javlon Campbell.
Adam Bogdan had a quiet afternoon, however he was alert to the danger when Jack Dorney wriggled free and created a path through to goal. The Hungarian stopper charged from his line to produce a fantastic block with the ball spooning over the bar for a corner.
Wanderers didn't appear to be hampered by the numerical disadvantage and they continued to dominate possession with Aaron Mooy offering the creative spark from central midfield.
Indeed, Obadeyi made sure of the win with just three minutes remaining when he nodded home a pinpoint Aaron Mooy corner, leaving Belford with no chance from just six yards out.
