Bolton Reserves 2 Bury Reserves 1
Bolton Wanderers Reserve team recorded a win against neighbours Bury in the Manchester Senior Cup, overcoming a resilient Shakers side 2-1 at the County Ground.
Two goals from striker Zoltan Harsanyi saw Bolton gain a foothold in the game before Bury's captain, Ritchie Baker converted a late penalty to ensure a tense finish.
Bolton started the game brighter and their dominance paid off when Harsanyi was brought down by Andrai Jones and the forward dusted himself down to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot, slotting the ball into the bottom right corner with his left foot.
The home side might have doubled their lead when goalscorer Harsanyi played through Michael O'Halloran, only for the winger to be given offside.
Rhys Bennett then saw a towering header tipped over and Sam Sheridan volleyed wide as the hosts pressed for a second goal.
Bury's first meaningful effort came on the half hour mark when Bolton's keeper, Rob Lainton, denied both Moses Barnett and Danni Racchi.
The hosts pushed on after the break and doubled their advantage when Harsanyi, a constant threat, latched on to a long goal kick and exquisitely lofted the ball over the keeper and into the empty net from the edge of the box.
The striker might have had a hat-trick but could only shoot into the side netting when well placed.
Bury rallied late on and won a late penalty when O'Halloran brought down centre back Jones and captain Ritchie Baker made no mistake from the spot, cooly slotting the ball down the middle of the goal.
Bury pressed for a leveller but there was no way through as Bolton held on to claim a crucial victory ahead of the next group match with Manchester City in two weeks.
