Wanderers suffered Manchester Senior Cup Final heartbreak for the third successive season as Manchester City lifted the trophy at the Reebok Stadium.

Alex Nimely's early strike was the only difference between the two teams as City avenged the Whites penalty shoot-out victory earlier in the competition.

Chances were few and far between in the first-half but the England U20 international got the winning strike with 18 minutes played.

Nimely - one of four players in the City team with Premier League experience - had caught the eye with his power and pace in attack as he blazed over from a tight angle and brought a strong block tackle out of Chris Stokes inside the first quarter of an hour.

And his winner was a tidy goal as he turned inside the box and fired low into the corner of the goal past Adam Bogdan.

Wanderers began to offer more after the early setback as Ricardo Vaz Te managed to create an opening before unfortunately losing his footing and young Scottish forward Michael O'Halloran saw a speculative effort from outside the area fly harmlessly over the bar.

Nimely had the chance to double his and the visitors' tally just ahead of the interval however he miskicked at the crucial moment when presented with an opportunity inside the six-yard box.

Both goalkeepers hadn't really been involved in the first-half but Adam Bogdan was alert to make two fine finger tip saves shortly after the restart.

After O'Halloran had volleyed wide, Wanderers' Hungarian stopper firstly tipped Robbie Mak's curling effort over the bar before thwarting David Ball with his legs.

Joe Riley made an important sliding challenge on Greg Cunningham as City pressed for their second, but Wanderers defence weathered the Mancunian's period of concerted pressure.

The Whites very nearly grabbed an equaliser on 73 minutes when Nathan Battersby latched on to Zoltan Harsanyi's deep cross, however the substitute saw his side-footed shot ricochet off the crossbar.

With eight miutes left, Vaz Te couldn't convert what proved to be Wanderers' clearest chance of the evening.

The Portuguese striker seized on a lapse in concentration by goalkeeper Loris Karius but his finish from a tight angle struck the side-netting with the goal gaping.

With that opportunity went Bolton's hopes as City held on to win the match and the silverware.
