Davies Delighted With Europe

KEVIN DAVIES has underlined how tense the final few moments of Sunday's game against Aston Villa were.
Wanderers were holding onto a draw against the West Midlands outfit, while Reading were vying for a victory against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. A win for the Royals would have seen them pip Wanderers for the final UEFA Cup berth.
And Davies, who netted Wanderers' second of the afternoon, admitted that he was looking towards the bench for updates from the Blackburn/Reading game.
He added: "We were looking to the bench to try and get an idea of what was going on in the other games. The crowd were pushing us on, we were trying to hold out for 2-2 and at times it looked like they were going to break and win it.
"I was trying to get some indication from the gaffer if a draw was good enough. Obviously 2-2 would have left it down to chance that Reading could go and get a winner, but it looked at that stage as if Villa were going to win it.
"We have been struggling to hold on to leads the last few weeks, but we don't care now, we are there."
Although Wanderers have qualified for a second European campaign their form since January has been inconsistent, a fact acknowledged by the big striker, who said that the squad will work even harder during the summer to cope with the intensities of another European campaign.
He added: "Results haven't been good this year, and we have struggled at home a little bit, but sometimes it doesn't matter how you get there, just that you got there.
"We can enjoy the summer a little bit more then come back and work even harder because we know what the demands are for playing in Europe.
"We haven't played that many games this season, but you look at Tottenham and they have played 50-odd games and that is a big demand.
"But it's about getting a good pre-season now to get fit. Then it's off to Europe, which is great for the fans and friends."
