Bolton Wanderers signed Andrew Lonergan from Leeds United on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The Preston born goalkeeper began his career at Preston North End and made his first team debut aged only 16 in a League Cup game against Coventry in 2000.

Lonergan remained at Preston for an 11 year spell making 207 appearances which included a string of 147 consecutive appearances.

Lonergan scored the only goal of his career from his own penalty area in a 1-1 draw against Leicester City in 2004.

He had a series of short term loan spells during his time with North End to Swindon Town, Blackpool, Wycombe Wanderers and Darlington.

Following Preston’s relegation to League 1 in 2011 Lonergan signed for Leeds United and made 38 first team appearances in all competitions, often wearing the captain’s armband.
