Following a successful loan move to Macron Stadium towards the end of the 2013/14 season, Liam Trotter joined Bolton Wanderers permanently from Millwall in July 2014.
Starting his career with Ipswich Town, the midfielder was part of the Tractor Boys’ U18s side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2005, beating a strong Southampton side featuring the likes of Gareth Bale, Adam Lallana and Theo Walcott.
After making his Ipswich debut as a late substitute in April 2006, Trotter signed his first professional contract with the club a few months later, before immediately being sent on loan to Millwall to gain first team experience.
Trotter scored his first Ipswich goal in his maiden appearance of the 2007/08 season against Colchester United, before spending the start of the following campaign on loan at Grimsby Town.
Finishing the season on loan at Scunthorpe United, the midfielder was a member of the Scunny side that won promotion to the Championship as League One Play-Off Final winners in 2009, coming on as a substitute in the final against Millwall.
He returned to Millwall on loan in January 2010, marking his second Lions debut with a last-minute goal in a 1-1 draw against Southampton.
For the second season running Trotter won promotion to the Championship via the League One Play-Offs as Millwall beat Swindon Town in the final.
Trotter joined the Lions permanently later that summer, but after four years at the club he was allowed to move to Wanderers on loan in January 2014 until the end of the season.
