Youth Team Report: Bolton Wanderers 5-1 Walsall

24 October 2021

The Young Whites continued their fine form with a convincing 5-1 win against Walsall with a fantastic performance in the EFL Youth Alliance league.

Straight from the off, Bolton dominated the game and played some fantastic football, working their way through the opposition at ease.

But, thanks to some last ditch defending by the Saddlers and poor decision making in the final third, Wanderers could have been ahead a lot earlier in the game.

It was only a matter of time before the first goal arrived and Lamine Toure provided the finish after a well worked corner routine.

Almost against the run of play, Walsall managed to find an equaliser as a quickly taken free kick caught everyone out and they took their chance accordingly.
From that moment on, the Young Whites never looked back and they quickly regained the lead after Max Conway was fouled in the box after a great run into the box.

He took hold of the ball and coverted the penalty soon after.

The second half started like the first ended, with the Young whites dominating from start to finish and a further two goals from Rio McEvoy and Mitchell Henry made the score line reflect the nature of the game.

Lead Professional Coach Dave Gardiner said: “Today was the best football we have played all season.”

“We were dominant with the ball and moved it with speed and confidence, creating so many chances.

“Furthermore, we controlled the game out of possession as well. We took up great positions to win the ball back and never let them get a foot hold in the game.”

Wanderers XI: Dallimore, Conway, Toure, Halford, Burgess, Tweedley, Sharples, Pettifer, Jones, McEvoy, Henry, Toure.

Subs: Kamara, Pinto, Lewis, Olawumi, Inwood
